I. Revision: (23’)

1. Report affirmative sentences:

- Give out examples and elicit the way to change an affirmative sentence into a reported speech.

Ex: a) “I am twelve years old.”

-> He said that he was twelve years old..

b) “I can’t play volleyball.”

-> She said that she couldn’t play volleyball.

- Consolidate the knowledge.

* Notes:

Present simple -> past simple

Present progressive -> past progressive

Will -> would

Can -> could

Have to / Must -> had to

May -> might

Here -> there

This -> that

These -> those

Now -> then

Tomorrow -> the next day/ the following day

- Ask Ss to give some examples with the above notes.

2. Report Yes-no questions:

Ex: a) “Are you a new student?”

-> He asked me if I was a new student.

b) “Do you like sports?”

-> He asked me whether I liked sports.

- Elicits the way to change a yes-no question into a reported speech.

- Consolidate the knowledge.

II. Practice: (20’)

Change the following sentences into reported speech:

1. I will come here tomorrow.

-> Nga said ………………………………………

2. I am reading a book now.

-> He said ………………………………………..

3. Does he work in this hospital?

-> He asked me ………………………………….

4. Is this book interesting?

-> He asked me ………………………………….

5. “I always get up early and do morning exercise.”

-> Phong said ……………………………………

6. “I can’t drink and eat now.”

-> She said ………………………………………

- Answer T’s questions.

Khi đổi từ lời nói trực tiếp sang lời nói gián tiếp, ta phải lùi lại một thì của động từ, đồng thời các thành phần khác của câu củng phải biến đổi cho phù hợp.

- Listen and write down.

- Give some examples with the above notes.

- Read the examples.

- Say out the way to change a yes-no question into a reported speech.

- Listen and write down.

- Read the sentences and work individually to do exercise.

- Go to the board and write the answer.
