Giáo án Tiếng Anh lớp 8 Unit 2: Making arrangements - Lesson 1

I. OBJECTIVES:

1. Aims: At the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

Revise the simple past, simple present, present continuous tense and practise further in “Enough”.

2. Knowlege:

* Grammar: Revise the simple past, simple present, present continuous tense and practise further in Enough.

3. Skills: Writing, reading and Speaking.

II. PREPARATION:

1. Teacher: Lesson plan, Textbook, Teacher’s book

2. Students: English book 8, notebook.

III. PROCEDURES:

1. Warmer: (8’) Describe the picture (Picture on P. 17).

  1. How many people are there in the picture?
  2. What does she/he look like?
  3. What is she/ he like?
  4. What is she/he wearing?

(T makes the model first and helps Ss revise the present continuous, the way to describe someone/s appearance, character before Ss working in groups of four)

I. Present simple and past simple tense: Gap filling

1. Completing the paragraphs: (12’)

- Asks Ss to retell the structure and the use of simple present and simple past tense.

- Asks them to give some examples

- Instructs them to complete the exercise and asks Ss to work in groups.

- Gets feedback and helps Ss to correct.

2. Completing the dialogue: (10’)

- Checks the verbs in the box and explains the words: planet, Mars, Mercury, the Earth.

- Elicits the situation in the dialogue and explains more about the use of simple present.

- Asks them to complete it in groups.

- Gets feedback & asks the whole to check.

- Notices Ss with: Using the simple present tense to talk about the general truth.

II. (Not) adjective + enough: (10’)

- Gives the example and asks Ss to combine it, using Enough.

- Elicits the use and structure from Ss first and asks Ss to compare : Enough & Enough for someone + to-inf.

- Asks Ss to combine above sentences individuallyà share it in pairs.

- Gets feedback.

- Elicits the checking from the class.

- Explains about the way to use Enough with adjectives and nouns

S+ tobe + adj + enough + (for someone) + to-inf. + ...

- Give and compare two tenses, focus on the verb form.

- Make examples if possible.

- Find out the context in which the tense is used.

- Speak out their answers and explain to the class, then correct themselves.

*) Answer key:

a: 1, lives/is living 2, sent 3, was 4, is

b: 1, are 2,come 3,showed 4, introduced

- Give the meaning of the words and listen to teacher.

- Read through the dialogue and give their ideas.

- Share the ideas in groups.

- Write their answers and correct them

- Combine the pair of sentences individually.

*) Example:

The table is small. I can move it

à The table is small enough for me to move it

- Pick out the structure, work out the ways and the steps to do with Enough.

- Define each component, write their own sentences.

- Write their answers on the board.

- Check it with teacher, give their ideas with the complete sentences

- Copy the way to use Enough with adjectives and nouns.

*) Exercises:

1, The bag is big. It can carry everything.

- The bag is gig enough to carry every thing.

2, Ba is old. He can drive a car.

- Ba is old enough to drive a car.

3, The table is not heavy. Nga can lift it.

- The table is not heavy enough for Nga to lift it.

4, Her English is good. I can understand.

- Her English is good enough for me to understand.

5, I have some money. I can visit Ha Noi.

- I have enough money to visit Ha Noi.

IV. HOMEWORK: (3’)

  • Asks the Ss to revise the structure of the present continuous, the simple past and compare it with simple present tense.
  • Do language focus 4 on page 17 at home.
  • Asks Ss to prepare: Unit 2: Getting started & Listen and Read. (P.18)
  • Find out the meaning of words in the box on page 18.
