I. OBJECTIVES:

1. Aims: At the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

  • Learn vocab. And understand the details of the folktale The Lost Shoe.
  • Express their ideas about the characters in the story.

2. Knowlege:

* Vocabulary: Cruel, (to) marry, upset, harvest festival, prince, fairy

* Grammar: Use the past simple to tell a story

3. Skills: Reading & writing

II. PREPARATION:

1. Teacher: The story, poster

2. Students:

  • Vocabulary: Cruel, (to) marry, upset, harvest festival, prince, fairy
  • Grammar: Use the past simple to tell a story

III. PROCEDURES:

1. Checking: (4’)

T: invites one or two Ss to talk about the main content and the moral lesson of the story they listen to last lesson and answer the questions:

?What events tell you the wife and husband were foolish/greedy?

2. New lesson:

*) Lead-in: (1’)

? Do you know Tam Cam.

? Tell the class the main content of the story.

T: introduces the content of the lesson.

I. PRE-STAGE: (13’)

1. Vocabulary

- Elicits the words from the Ss and says them out.

- Writes and checks.

+ (to) be cruel (Trans.)

Ex: The new wife was very cruel to her

+ (to) marry (Trans)

+ (to) be upset = unhappy

Ex: Her father was very upset

+ (the) harvest festival (Trans.)

+ (a) prince (Example)

+ (a) fairy (Picture)

- Instructs Ss to read.

- Uses “Matching” to check vocab. and asks Ss to correct.

2. T/F statement prediction

- Hangs on the statements and asks Ss to read them through.

- Asks Ss to predict them True or False

- Gets feedback

1. After Little Pea/s mother died, her father married again and had Stout Nut.

2. The new mother was very cruel to Stout Nut.

3. Little Pea had new clothes for the harvest festival.

4. A fairy made beautiful clothes for Stout Nut.

II. WHILE-STAGE: (15’)

1. Read the story and check the predictions:

- Asks Ss to read the story to check their predictions.

- Gets feedback.

- Asks the whole to check.

2. Comprehension questions:

- Hangs on the questions and asks Ss to run them through, explains questions b and c.

- Has them to work in pairs to answer the questions.

- Gets feedback and asks Ss to asks and answer the questions.

III. POST-STAGE: (10’) Discussion

Question:

1. How many charaters are there in the story? Who are they?

2. Who do you like best/ Who do you dislike? Why?

- Asks Ss to share their ideas in groups.

- Calls on some representatives of some groups to practice speaking before class.

- Comments and corrects if any.

- Answer T’s questions.

- Try out & repeat chorally-individually.

- Give the meaning & make the sentences.

- Read the words.

- Run through the words & match the words with the Vietnamese meaning.

- Predict the information about Little Pea.

- Read them through and share their ideas in groups.

- Write their ideas on the worksheets then stick their predictions on the board.

5. Little Pea lost her clothes as she ran to the festival.

6. Finally, the shoe fitted Little Pea and the prince married her.

- Read the story on page 41, share their ideas in groups.

- Give their right answers.

- Check them and give their explanations.

- Run through the questions.

- Read the story and answer the questions and share their ideas in pairs to answer the questions.

- Speak out their answers and explain, then ask and answer in pairs before class.

*) Answer key:

a, She was a poor farmer/s daughter.

b, She had to do chores all day.

c, A fairy magically changed her rags into beautiful clothes.

d, Because the shoe fitted her.

- Work in groups of four and practice speaking.

- Practice speaking in front of class.

IV. HOMEWORK:(2’)

  • Asks Ss to read the text again and do exercise 1 - P.42 (textbook)
  • Asks Ss to prepare: Write- P.37
    • Vocabulary: - wisdom, stripe, straw, (to) graze, master, servant, (to) bring
    • Grammar: Review the past simple tense
