Bill Gates (aka William Henry Gates III) is considered one of the most successful businessmen ever and one of the most influential people of the 20th century. Born on October 28, 1955, in Seattle, Washington, Gates was the son of a famous lawyer and a director of a big company. From a young age, he showed a keen interest in computers and computer programming, writing his first software program at the age of 13.
Gates attended Harvard College in 1973 but dropped out in 1975 to pursue his passion for software development. That same year, he co-founded Microsoft with his friend Paul Allen. Their company revolutionized the personal computer industry, especially after Gates persuaded IBM to use Microsoft software in their PCs in 1980. This move led to the widespread adoption of Windows, making Microsoft a household name.
From 1995 to 2017, Gates held the title of the richest man in the world. In 2000, he and his then-wife Melinda founded the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which aims to improve healthcare and reduce poverty worldwide. By 2023, the foundation was valued at nearly 50 billion dollars. Gates' contributions to technology and philanthropy have left an indelible mark on the world.
