Time to Redecorate My Room
(1) My Mom came to my room today and told me something that I've known for a while. (2) She said it was time to redecorate my room; it was long overdue, she said. (3) I looked around uncomfortably and said that she was right. (4) It was time to face the decision I'd been dreading.
(5) When I was a kid, I was completely obsessed with dinosaurs. (6) I read all about them and saw every dinosaur movie ever made. (7) I was an auothority, able to rattle off any fact, no matter how small, about any kind of dinosaur. (8) I have gotten past this phase and my bedroom has not. (9) I look around and see dinosaurs everywhere, on the wallpaper, on the curtains, on the bedspread and even hanging from the ceiling. (10) The difficult decision is not whether to get rid of the dinosaur décor, I know I have to do that. (11) The question is, what should I use in place of it? (12) It's a matter of identity. (13) I used to be a dinosaur kid. (14) What kind of a kid am I now?
(15) I know I am not interested in dinosaurs anymore, but I have a problem. (16) I don't have any idea of what I want to do with this room. (17) Should I choose something bold and dramatic? (18) That isn't really me. (19) I could decide on something cool and subtle, but that isn't me, either. (20) I'm not artsy or retro or geometric or asymmetrical. (21) I don't know how to match up my personality with a decorating style. (22) Does this mean I have to settle for a room that is totally beige? (23) What kinds of choices are there for an ordinary kid who used to love dinosaurs?
(24) Before this develops into a full-blown crisis, I'll drive Mom to the shopping center. (25) I'm sure my mom and I will find something I like. (26) We'll find some identity for me in a wallpaper book.
