I. OBJECTIVES:
1. Aim: By the end of the lesson, ss will be able to read and understand the text about a university without a library.
- - Standard: Read and check the boxes (exercise 1)
- - Higher: Answer some questions (exercise 2)
2. Knowledge:
- Vocabulary: message (n), to access, freshman (n), campus (n), jack (n), bulletin board (n), degree (n), skeptical (a).
- Structures: - Present simple tense
3. Skills: Reading, listening and writing.
II. PREPARATION:
1. Teacher: Lesson plan, text book, cassette, tape, pictures, projector.
2. Students:
- Vocabulary: message (n), to access, freshman (n), campus (n), jack (n), bulletin board (n), degree (n), skeptical (a).
- Structures: - Present simple tense
III. PPROCEDURE:
1. Check up: (5’)
Ask Ss to answer the questions on the board.

I. Pre- reading: (15’) 1. True - False predictions: - Give out the statements. - Ask Ss to work in pairs and decide if the statements are true or false. - Collect and write their predictions on the board. II. While - reading: ( 10’) Checking predictions: - Turn on the tape 2 times and ask Ss to read the text on p.141 to check their predictions. - Get feedback. - Call on some Ss to correct the false statements. - Give correct answer. * Answer: a. Post- reading: ( 12’) Lucky number - Ask Ss to continue to work in pairs and answer the questions. - Divide the class into two groups. Guide Ss to play the game. The groups take turn to choose the numbers. They have to answer the question behind each number. There are four questions, three lucky number and one unlucky number. The group which answers a question correctly or has lucky number will get 10 marks. The group which can’t answer the questions or has unlucky number won’t get marks. The group which has more marks will win. * Answer key: a) It has no library. All the information normally found in a library is now stored in the university’s computers. b) All the information normally found in a library or messages normally found on a bulletin board. c) A computer and a telephone (line). d) With a bulletin board on the Internet, a great number of people (over 20 million) can get access to the bulletin and exchange information quickly. | - Try to give them out and repeat chorally- individually. - Copy down and give the meaning, stress. - Match the words with their meaning. - Read the statements. - Work in pairs to give predictions. - Give predictions. - Listen to the tape and read the text to check the predictions. - Give answer. - Correct false statements. - Ask and answer questions in pairs. - Play the game as T’s guides. |
IV. HOMEWORK:
- Learn by heart all the vocabulary of the lesson.
- Write a paragraph to answer question e) on page 142.
