Dialogue 1:

A: Hey B, I saw your photo in the newspaper this morning.

B: Oh yes, that's right. I just got back from a tennis tournament, and I won a medal! But, it was a long road to my success.

A: Why is that?

B: Because it was hard for me to juggle sport and studies. And sometimes, I felt so exhausted that I once thought about giving up.

A: Oh! What happened then?

B: Well, I put a lot of efforts into training and tried to spend time hitting the books at night, and sometimes I even studied during breaks between matches. It was quite frustrating but the passion for tennis kept me going.

A: What an amazing story!

Dialogue 1.

W: What does your friend Tom do for a living? Does he work in construction like you?

M: No, actually. He works at a clerk at a bank in the city. He doesn't want to do that for good, though. His goal is to eventually train to become an air traffic controller.

W: That sounds like an interesting career.

Dialogue 2.

W: I can't find David anywhere around the office. Is he taking his lunch break at the moment?

M: No, he's taken the day off. He is going on a city tour with some friends for the day.

W: Oh no. I was hoping he could help me fix this printer.

M: I see. Well, maybe I can help you with that.

Dialogue 3.

M: What time does work start at your company, Amy?

W: Well, it's quite flexible actually. My colleagues and I can start as early as 7.30 or as late as 9.30. I don't like getting up too early, so 8.30 works for me.

M: That's a good idea. That way you have plenty of time to have breakfast and get dressed, but you can still get through plenty of work before lunchtime.

W: Exactly.

Dialogue 4.

M: How many hours a week does Nick work?

W: He works about 60 hours a week, I think. He's really dedicated to his job.

M: Wow, that's a lot. I usually only work 40 hours.

W: Yeah, it's definitely a lot. I keep telling him he should reduce it to 50, so he can have more free time.
