Rashema’s Journey

A. Rashema Melson is an inspiring person who has achieved her goal of getting a full scholarship to college. She was born in Washington D.C. in 1996 and had dreams of being successful from an early age. (1) _____.

B. In her early years, life was very difficult for Rashema. She came from a very poor family and many times they didn’t have enough food to eat. (2) _____. She changed school often because she didn't have a permanent home. But she was determined to be a good student and passed all her exams.

The Man Who Taught Me Never to Give Up

One person I truly admire is Nguyễn Ngọc Ký, a famous Vietnamese teacher and writer. He was born on June 28, 1947, in Hai Hau, Nam Dinh Province. He became well-known across Vietnam as the first teacher to write with his feet.

His early life was full of difficulties. At the age of four, he suffered from a severe illness that left him unable to use his arms. As a boy, he wanted to go to school, but many people thought it was impossible. However, he refused to give up. He taught himself to write using his feet, which was extremely hard and painful in the beginning.

A turning point came in 1963 when he won fifth place in a national math competition and was personally awarded by President Hồ Chí Minh. Later, he studied literature at university and became a teacher in his hometown. In 1993, he was given the title “Outstanding Teacher” and in 2005, the Vietnam Book of Records recognized him as the first teacher to write with his feet.

I admire him for his incredible determination and optimism. His life teaches me that no matter how difficult things seem, with patience and courage, you can overcome anything.

Một người mà tôi thực sự ngưỡng mộ là Nguyễn Ngọc Ký, một nhà giáo và nhà văn nổi tiếng của Việt Nam. Ông sinh ngày 28 tháng 6 năm 1947, tại Hải Hậu, tỉnh Nam Định. Ông trở nên nổi tiếng khắp Việt Nam với tư cách là người thầy đầu tiên viết bằng chân.

Cuộc sống thuở nhỏ của ông đầy khó khăn. Năm bốn tuổi, ông mắc một căn bệnh hiểm nghèo khiến ông không thể sử dụng được tay. Khi còn nhỏ, ông muốn đi học, nhưng nhiều người cho rằng điều đó là không thể. Tuy nhiên, ông đã không bỏ cuộc. Ông tự học viết bằng chân, một việc vô cùng khó khăn và đau đớn lúc ban đầu.

Một bước ngoặt đến vào năm 1963 khi ông đạt giải năm trong một cuộc thi toán toàn quốc và được Chủ tịch Hồ Chí Minh đích thân trao tặng bằng khen. Sau đó, ông học văn tại trường đại học và trở thành một giáo viên tại quê nhà. Năm 1993, ông được phong tặng danh hiệu "Nhà giáo ưu tú" và năm 2005, Sách Kỷ lục Việt Nam đã ghi nhận ông là người thầy đầu tiên viết bằng chân.

Tôi ngưỡng mộ anh ấy vì sự quyết tâm và lạc quan đáng kinh ngạc. Cuộc đời anh ấy dạy tôi rằng dù mọi thứ có khó khăn đến đâu, chỉ cần kiên nhẫn và can đảm, bạn có thể vượt qua mọi thứ.
