1. Complex sentences with adverb clauses of time (Câu phức chứa mệnh đề trạng ngữ chỉ thời gian)

Câu phức bao gồm một mệnh đề độc lập (mệnh đề chính) và ít nhất một mệnh đề phụ thuộc:

- Mệnh đề trạng ngữ là mệnh đề phụ thuộc.

- Mệnh đề trạng ngữ thời gian diễn tả thời điểm xảy ra sự việc nào đó và thường chứa các liên từ nối thời gian đứng trước như: when (khi), while, as (trong khi), until/till (cho đến khi), as soon as (ngay sau khi), once (ngay khi), before (trước khi), after (sau khi)

e.g.: I won’t leave until my friend arrives.

2. Adverbs of frequency (Trạng từ tần suất)

- Trạng từ tần suất diễn tả mức độ thường xuyên của một hành động.

- Trạng từ tần suất trả lời cho câu hỏi: How often + do/does + S + V-bare?

- Trạng từ tần suất đứng sau động từ “be” (am/is/are)

e.g.: She’s always on time.

- Trạng từ tần suất đứng trước động từ thường trong câu. V/V-s/-es

e.g.: He usually plays football.

- Trạng từ tần suất đứng giữa trợ động từ và động từ chính.

e.g.: They don’t often return things that they buy online.

- Các trạng từ tần suất thường dùng: always (luôn luôn), usually (thường xuyên), often (thường), sometimes (thỉnh thoảng), seldom (hiếm), rarely (hiếm khi), never (không bao giờ),…

3. Present Simple for future events (Hiện tại đơn diễn tả sự kiện tương lai)

- Chúng ta sử dụng thì hiện tại đơn với nghĩa tương lai để nói về thời gian biểu hoặc lịch trình.

-Forms: (+) S + V(-s/-es) + O

(-) S + don’t / doesn’t + V-bare + O

(?) Do / Does + S + V-bare + O?

Yes, S + do/does. / No, S + don’t / doesn’t.

e.g.:

The summer sales end next Sunday.

4. Past continuous (Quá khứ tiếp diễn)

Forms:

(+) S + was / were + V- ing

e.g.: She was cooking at 7 p.m. yesterday.

They were studying English at 9 o’clock this morning.

(-) S + wasn’t / weren’t + V-ing

e.g.: She wasn’t cooking at 7 p.m. yesterday.

They weren’t studying English at 9 o’clock this morning.

(?) Was / Were + S + V-ing…?

Saving the Environment: One Home at a Time

Pollution can be seen not only throughout the world, but also in our own homes. It comes from household chemicals, the amount of water people use and the waste people produce and throw away. What can be done to stop this pollution? Surprisingly, a person can help save the environment by doing simple things. First, we need to recycle, which allows products to be used over and over again. Recycling can also reduce the number of trees cut down to produce paper products. It takes very little effort. It is not hard to place plastic and glass bottles, aluminum cans and paper in a bin. Anyone can do it. Second, we need to control the amount of water used at home. It can be conserved by taking short showers instead of baths, repairing leaky faucets, using the dishwasher or washing machine only when fully loaded, or simply turning the faucet off while brushing your teeth. Third, we need to reduce waste. We need to recycle whenever possible, but should also try to use this waste effectively. For example, grass clippings and food scraps can be made into compost for plants. The average person produces 4.3 pounds of waste every day, but we can reduce that amount by recycling and reusing. If we do our part in our own homes, we can help keep the planet from becoming more polluted.
