Adverbial clauses of condition (Mệnh đề trạng ngữ chỉ điều kiện)

̶ Mệnh đề trạng ngữ chỉ điều kiện diễn tả một điều kiện cần thiết để một sự việc có thể diễn ra. Chúng thường bắt đầu với if, unless, as long as, provided that, in case.

Từ	If		Unless	As long as Provided that		In case
Cách dùng	đề cập đến một tình huống có thể xảy ra ở hiện tại/tương lai	(Câu điều kiện loại I) hoặc một tình huống không có thật ở hiện tại (Câu điều kiện loại II)	if ... not		only if	if something happens in the future
Cấu trúc	If + Subject + Present Simple, Subject + will + bare infinitive	If + Subject + Past Simple, Subject + would + bare infinitive	Unless/As long as/Provided that/In case + clause, main clause

e.g. If we don't reduce pollution, animal populations will continue to decrease.

If I were the mayor, I'd ban plastic bags and bottles.

Air pollution will continue unless we ban cars. = Air pollution will continue if we don’t ban cars.

As long as/Provided that people stop cutting down trees, the amount of wildlife will increase.

= Only if people stop cutting down trees, the amount of wildlife will increase.

In case we can't reintroduce the animals to their habitats, we should prepare space in the shelter.

Double comparatives (So sánh kép):

̶ Cấu trúc so sánh kép được dùng để diễn tả sự việc thay đổi liên tục.
