A. MOST
1. Most (det): hầu hết
- Là từ hạn định, nhằm giới hạn danh từ sau nó. Ví dụ như [the/this/that/these/those]. Chức năng cú pháp như một tính từ (đứng trước danh từ)
- Đây là trường hợp nói chung chung chả biết ai với ai, cái gì, với cái gì.
E.g: Most children like playing and hate being given more homework.
2. Most (adv) = very/ extremely
E.g: This task is most important (= extremely important)
3. Most: dạng so sánh bậc nhất của much/many
E.g: I love my mom (the) most. (Có thể lược "the")
B. MOST OF
- [the/ Sở hữu cách/tính từ sở hữu/ tân ngữ của ĐT nhân xưng]
- Khi muốn đề cập đến những đối tượng cụ thể, đã được biết đến hay hiểu từ trước thì bắt buộc phải dùng [Most of ] và theo sau nó phải là các danh từ xác định
- Trường hợp này Most chính là một Pronoun (đại từ)
E.g 1: Most of the students in this school are intelligent and learned.
(sinh viên ở đây không nói chung chung mà nói rõ ở "this school")
E.g 2: Most of Ms. Nga's relatives are friendly.
(Nếu không nói rõ là relatives của Ms. Nga thì câu này không bao giờ đúng)
C. MOSTLY (= mainly, generally) (adv) : Chủ yếu là, thường là
E.g: My weekends were spent mostly alone. (= generally)
D. ALMOST (adv) = nearly: hầu như, gần như (chỉ số lượng, chất)
Almost rất hay bắt cặp với 3 từ all, every, no (nếu bài thi mà có 3 em [all, every,no] cứ thẳng tay mà chọn almost nhé)
E.g 1: Almost everything was done from the beginning.
E.g 2: Almost no one refused to join the party.
E.g 3: Almost all workers are on strike.
E.g 4: I almost died when I fail my exam. (= nearly died)
(Câu này dung Nearly thì đẹp hơn, vì nearly nhấn mạnh đến số lượng hơn)
E. THE MOST
"The most" thường sử dụng ở dạng so sánh nhất
Eg:
Who has the most money in the world?
Who is the most beautiful and sexiest woman in the world?"
