The similarities and differences between Vietnamese educational system and American one

The similarities:

  • Family involvement in education: In Vietnam, parents are often heavily involved in their children's education, helping them with homework and monitoring their progress. In America, parents also play an important role in their children's education, often volunteering at schools and participating in parent-teacher conferences.
  • Value hard work and dedication: In Vietnam, students are expected to put in long hours of study and practice in order to succeed. In America, students are also encouraged to work hard and set goals for themselves.
  • School system structure: generally from primary to secondary and tertiary education.
  • Respecting teachers and others: both cultures emphasize the importance of respecting teachers and other authority figures in the school setting.

The differences:

- Teaching Style

  • One of the most notable differences between the two cultures is the approach to teaching. In Vietnam, the focus is on theoretical knowledge rather than class discussion and participation. Teachers are considered the authority figures in the classroom, and students are expected to be passive learners, listening to lectures and taking notes from textbooks. In contrast, American education places a strong emphasis on class discussion and participation, with students encouraged to ask questions, express their opinions, and engage in group activities.

- Academic Awards/Grading

  • Academic awards and grading are also different between the two cultures. In Vietnam, academic awards are given to students who achieve high grades and demonstrate excellent behavior, while in America, academic awards are based on a combination of grades and extra-curricular activities. Grading systems are also different; where Vietnam is more strict, and the grading system is based on a scale of 1-10, while in the US, the grading system is based on a letter scale of A-F.

Talk about the similarities and differences between American and Vietnamese cultures số 1

Vietnamese and American cultures have some similarities and some differences. Start with similarities, both two countries place a strong emphasis on the importance of family and respect for elders. Moreover, both cultures value education and hard work as a means of achieving success.

The next point are differences. Vietnam is a collectivist culture, while the United States is an individualist culture. This means that in Vietnam, the needs of the group (e.g. family, community) tend to take precedence over the needs of the individual, while in the United States, the needs of the individual are often emphasized over the needs of the group.

Vietnam has a long history of foreign influence, including colonization by the French, while the United States has a shorter history and has not been colonized by a foreign power. This means that the two cultures have had different experiences with foreign influence and may have different perspectives on issues related to colonialism and imperialism.

Overall, while there are some similarities between Vietnamese and American cultures, there are also many differences due to the unique histories, religions, and cultural values of the two countries.

Difference between American and Vietnamese culture essay lớp 12 số 2

There are differences and similarities between Vietnamese and American cultures.

In America, two generations live in a home. In Vietnam, two, three or even four generations live under one roof. In America, old-aged parents live in nursing homes but in Vietnam they live with their children.

It is not polite to ask American about age, marriage and income. However, it is normal in Vietnam. Americans can greet anyone in the family first but in Vietnam, that's wrong. As a rule, all members have to greet the oldest one first.

Americans buy groceries once a week and keep them in a refrigerator. In Vietnam, inspite of having refrigerator, they still buy groceries every day. Maybe, they want fresh food, they consider that it is better for their health.

For American, Christmas and New Year holidays are the most important. But for Vietnamese, only New Year. One another feature, American children sleep in their own bedrooms, Vietnamese ones sleep with their parents so that they are cared well.

The similarities and differences between Vietnamese and American cultures số 3

Each nation has its own culture. And today, I will present you some of my views about differences and similarities between Vietnamese and American cultures.

In America, two generations live in a home, but, in Vietnam, there are even more, three or sometimes four generations living under one roof. That makes Vietnamese families bigger and closer.

In a family, while American old-aged parents live in nursing homes, Vietnamese ones are cared for by their children. That is the chance for the younger to express their gratitude to ones nourishing them. In communication, it's normal in Vietnam when asking someone about their age, marriage and income. But, don't ask these questions when you talk to an American if you don't want to be considered as an impolite person.

When Vietnamese family members greet one another, they always greet the oldest or the most important one first. In America, this is more open. People can greet anyone in the family first.

Groceries are bought once a week in an American home. People often go shopping at supermarket. In Vietnam, housewives go to the small market to buy goods everyday. Just in cities, some Vietnamese are used to going to supermarket.

American most important holidays are Christmas, New Year holiday and Thanksgiving, whereas the most meaningful holidays in Vietnam are Lunar New Year (Tết) and Mid-Autumn Festival. Families also celebrate Death Anniversary and invite their relatives.

In Vietnam, children sleep with their parents until 10 or 11, sometimes even to 15. But, Americans let their children sleep in a private room.

All above are some pieces of information I have got from many sources. I hope by understanding other nation's culture, we will get ready better to join with the other parts of the world.

Talk about differences and similarities between Vietnamese and American cultures số 4

There are several similarities and differences between both America and Vietnam.

Start with similarities, both countries share some common celebration such as valentine day, Christmas day… activities on these time literally the same. For example, the former, people usually giving flowers or chocolates and the latter, people tend to decorate pine tree, enjoy moment with family and friends.

The next point are differences, It is easy to see that the Lunar New Year and International New Year happen on different dates. While the first day of Western New Year is the 1st of Jan for every year in International time. The 1st of Jan of Lunar New Year is a different day in the International time each year, as it follows the Lunar Calendar which may be different each year and quite complicated to calculate. Moreover, In Western countries, normally, people will party on New Year Eve and spend time traveling or relaxing before coming back to work. Lunar New Year in Vietnam is the time for returning home, enjoy an entire long holiday for visiting relatives and old friends, going to temples and pagodas then wishing for a healthy, wealthy, and lucky new year.

In conclusion, the differences between cultures bring out the uniqueness of each.
