THE SIMPLE PAST TENSE ( Thì quá khứ đơn)

* Usage: diễn tả hành động đã xảy ra và hoàn tất tại một thời điểm cụ thể trong quá khứ.

* Adverb: Yesterday (hôm qua), ago (cách đây), last week (tuần trước), last month, last year.

1. TOBE: WAS/ WERE

* Viết tắt: was not: wasn’t were not: weren't

* Note: - I, He, She, It và danh từ số ít: WAS

- We, You, They, danh từ số nhiều: WERE

Ex: - I was at home yesterday.

- He wasn’t present at the meeting last night.

- Was Nam at home yesterday? Yes, he was.

-Where were you last night?

2. VERB: VED/ V2

a. REGULAR VERB (ĐỘNG TỪ CÓ QUY TẮC): V-ED

Động từ có qui tắc: thành lập bằng cách thêm ED vào sau động từ nguyên mẫu.

* Cách thêm ED: Với các động từ tận cùng:

- bằng E thêm D

Ex: improve -» improved

- bằng phụ âm - nguyên âm - phụ âm: gấp đôi phụ âm cuối + ED.

Ex: fit -» fitted

- bằng phụ âm + Y: đổi Y thành I + ED

Ex: worry -» worried

*Cách phát âm đuôi ED

❖/ID/: sau các động từ tận cùng bằng t và d

Ex: wanted, waited, intended, needed.

❖/T/ sau các động từ tận cùng bằng: f, k, p, s, ce, ch, sh, gh, ph.

Ex: stopped, looked, fixed, practiced/, watched, laughed, washed, missed.

❖/D/: sau các động từ tận cùng bằng các nguyên âm và các âm còn lại.
