Sally Ride was born on May 26, 1951 in the United States. She graduated from Stanford University in 1973 and later obtained her doctorate in Physics in 1978. That same year, she was selected by NASA as one of six women to begin spaceflight training.
In 1983, she made history by experiencing her first flight into space on the Challenger, becoming the first American woman in space. Just one year later, in 1984, she traveled into space for the second time, also on the Challenger.
Sadly, she died of cancer in 2012, but she is remembered as a pioneer and an inspiration for women in science and space exploration.
