1 SPEAKING Work in pairs. Discuss the questions. Làm việc theo cặp. Thảo luận các câu hỏi.
1 When do you think the first humanoid robot appeared in Viet Nam?
2 To what extent do you think this robot resembles a human?
Đáp án
1. I think the first humanoid robot in Viet Nam appeared only quite recently, maybe around the last ten years. Viet Nam is still developing advanced technology, so humanoid robots are not as common here as in countries like Japan or the USA. However, I know that some Vietnamese universities and research centers have already built robots that can move, talk, or assist in education and exhibitions.
2. In my opinion, the Vietnamese humanoid robots only resemble humans in some basic ways, such as having a head, arms, and legs, and being able to move or speak. But they don’t look completely like humans, because their faces and movements are still quite mechanical. So, they are partly humanlike, but not as realistic as robots like Sophia or Ameca.

2 Read the text. Check your answers in exercise 1. What do you find most impressive about Sophia? Đọc văn bản. Kiểm tra câu trả lời của bạn ở bài tập 1. Bạn thấy điều gì ấn tượng nhất về Sophia?
Đáp án
I think the most impressive thing about Sophia is her ability to interact naturally with people. She can recognise faces, understand emotions, and even show expressions. I also admire her learning skills, because she can improve and adapt just like humans. That makes her more humanlike than other robots.

Sophia was born in 2016 and has since gone on to visit many countries. She even became the first robot to be granted citizenship. Sophia helps to show the rapid development of AI and is designed to aid humans in various fields such as healthcare and education. With her artificial skin, she looks very humanlike. She can engage in conversations, recognise people’s faces, and respond to new situations, which makes her stand out from other robots.
5 Listen and decide who is more positive about Sophia and humanlike robots. Hãy lắng nghe và quyết định xem ai có quan điểm tích cực hơn về Sophia và những robot giống con người.

7 SPEAKING If you were to programme Sophia to speak Vietnamese, what would be the first words or phrases you would key in? What aspect of Vietnamese do you think would be most challenging to Sophia? Nếu bạn lập trình cho Sophia nói tiếng Việt, bạn sẽ nhập từ hoặc cụm từ đầu tiên nào? Bạn nghĩ khía cạnh nào của tiếng Việt sẽ là thách thức nhất đối với Sophia?
Đáp án
If I were to programme Sophia to speak Vietnamese, the first words or phrases I would key in would be “Xin chào” (Hello), “Bạn có khỏe không?” (How are you?), and “Cảm ơn” (Thank you). These are polite and very common expressions that would help Sophia make a good first impression when communicating with Vietnamese people.
I think the most challenging aspect of Vietnamese for Sophia would be the tones. Vietnamese is a tonal language with six different tones in the Northern dialect, and the meaning of a word changes completely depending on the tone. For example, the word “ma” can mean “ghost”, “but”, or “rice seedling” depending on the tone. Another challenge would be the regional differences, since Northern, Central, and Southern Vietnamese have some different vocabulary and pronunciation.
In conclusion, I would teach Sophia polite greetings first, but mastering tones and regional accents would be the most difficult part for her.
8 PROJECT Work in groups. Search the internet for information about humanlike robots. Present your favourite robot to the class. Làm việc nhóm. Tìm kiếm trên Internet thông tin về robot giống con người. Trình bày robot yêu thích của bạn trước lớp.
Đáp án gơi ý
Today I would like to talk about my favourite humanlike robot, which is called Ameca. Ameca was created by a British company called Engineered Arts, and it is often described as the world’s most advanced humanoid robot.
What makes Ameca special is its extremely realistic facial expressions. It can smile, frown, blink, and even show surprise, just like a real human. This allows it to interact with people in a natural way. Ameca can also hold conversations, answer questions, and make gestures with its hands.
I find Ameca impressive because it is not only a piece of technology but also a tool to show what the future of human–robot communication might look like. In the future, robots like Ameca could be used in customer service, education, or even healthcare.
In conclusion, Ameca is my favourite humanoid robot because it shows how close we are to building machines that can look and act like humans. Thank you for listening.
