Writing Strategy

When you write a formal letter:

1 divide your letter into paragraphs.

2 in the introduction, explain why you are writing. At the end, tell the reader what you would like them to do.

3 use formal language and avoid contractions and abbreviations.

4 use the appropriate phrases to start and finish your letter, depending on whether you know the recipient by name.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with my recent stay at your campsite. My friends and I had high hopes for a relaxing holiday, but unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing.

Firstly, the campsite was advertised as clean and well-equipped, but we found the opposite. The toilets and showers were dirty and rarely cleaned, which made using them very unpleasant. In addition, the bins were overflowing, attracting insects and creating a terrible smell throughout the area.

Secondly, the facilities were not as described. The so-called “kitchen area” had no working stove or fridge, and there was no hot water for washing up. Furthermore, we were promised free Wi-Fi, but there was no signal at all during our stay.

Lastly, the campsite was very noisy at night. Other guests played loud music until early morning, and there was no staff around to enforce quiet hours.

I suggest that you improve cleanliness, repair broken facilities, and ensure there is staff supervision at night. These changes would make a big difference for future guests.

I hope you will take this feedback seriously and make improvements to your campsite.
