Are you a visual person, who likes looking at things? Perhaps you prefer to use your sense of hearing and listen to things? Do our quiz and make a note of your choices to see which senses are most important to you.

1. You are in a restaurant and you ask the waiter to bring you the most unusual dish on the menu. When the dish arrives, what do you do first?

- Smell it.

- Feel it.

- Look at it closely.

- Ask someone about it.

- Taste it.

2. Which two of these things do you prefer?

- The taste of a delicious meal

- The sight of a beautiful sunset

- The smell of flowers in the summer

- The feel of a warm bed on a winter's night

- The sound of beautiful music

3. What do you think about books?

- I like to hold and smell them when they're new.

- I like the covers and photos.

- I really like recipe books. I can almost taste the food when I read them.

- I prefer audio books or listening to stories.

4. Choose the two conditions which you think are most difficult.

- Colour-blindness, when you can't see some colours.

- Tone-deafness, when you can't sing or play instruments very well because you don't have a 'good ear'.

- ‘Anosmia', when you can't smell anything or taste very little.

- Losing sensation in some of your toes or fingers.

5. Which two of these activities do you prefer to do to relax?

- Watch TV

- Have a warm drink

- Listen to music

- Exercise and then have a shower or a bath

Interviewer: What are your favourite sounds?

Alicia: My favourite sounds? Mmm... my favourite sounds are the sounds of the countryside. Oh yes, and the sounds of the sea. It's very relaxing. It reminds me of holidays.

Interviewer: What smells do you really like?

Emma: Breakfast smells. I love the smell of coffee in the morning ... and toast. They're both great morning smells.

Interviewer: Are there any smells that you dislike?

Will: Um, yes... hospital. I was in hospital once and I hated the smells in there. Oh, and I can't stand the smell of our school canteen. It always smells like old vegetables.

Interviewer: Is there anything that makes you feel happy when you see it?

Paul: Yes, I've got a photo of my wife and kids in my wallet. I like looking at that and having it close.

Interviewer: Is there anything that you don't like looking at?

Zara: Yes, that's easy - I can't stand the sight of blood. It reminds me of the time I fell off my bike and I hurt my leg.

1 - My favourite sights are sunsets over the beach and green rice fields in the countryside. They remind me of my summer holidays with my family. My favourite sounds are the waves hitting the shore and birds singing in the morning — they make me feel relaxed. My favourite tastes are sweet mangoes and hot noodle soup, which remind me of home and my mother’s cooking.

2 - I don’t like seeing rubbish on the streets because it makes the city look dirty and sad. I also hate the sound of loud traffic; it makes me feel stressed and tired. My least favourite taste is very bitter medicine — it makes me feel sick.

3 - I like to touch soft things like my blanket or my cat’s fur because they make me feel warm and comfortable. However, I don’t like touching sticky or dirty things because they feel unpleasant and make my hands uncomfortable.
