I. Reported speech - Câu gián tiếp/ Câu tường thuật
- Câu tường thuật là câu thuật lại lời nói trực tiếp.
- Lời nói trực tiếp (direct speech): là nói chính xác điều ai đó diễn đạt (còn gọi là trích dẫn). Lời của người nói sẽ được đặt trong dấu ngoặc kép.
- Lời nói gián tiếp – câu tường thuật (indirect speech): Là thuật lại lời nói của một người khác dưới dạng gián tiếp, không dùng dấu ngoặc kép.
- Cách đổi từ câu trực tiếp sang gián tiếp:
- Đổi chủ ngữ và các đại từ nhân xưng khác trong câu trực tiếp cho phù hợp với câu gián tiếp mới
- Biến đổi các đại từ chỉ định, trạng ngữ chỉ thời gian và địa điểm theo quy tắc (bảng kèm theo dưới đây)
- Lùi động từ ở câu trực tiếp lại một thì so với lúc ban đầu (khi các động từ giới thiệu (say, tell…) ở quá khứ)
- Nếu các động từ giới thiệu ở thì hiện tại đơn thì khi chuyển sang câu gián tiếp ta giữ nguyên thì.
- Cấu trúc câu gián tiếp:
>> Indirect speech: Mệnh đề tường thuật + that + Mệnh đề được tường thuật lại.
Ví dụ:
Monica said, “I am going to the store.”
>> Monica said that she was going to the store.
He said, “ I went to school yesterday”
>> He said that he had gone to school the day before/ the previous day.
