Ben: Hi Jane, what are you doing?
Jane: Oh, hi Ben, I’m just reading about AI apps. There are so many nowadays.
Ben: It’s true. – I’ve just downloaded a drawing app and a digital assistant app that use AI.
Jane: Really? What do you think about them?
Ben: Well, I love the drawing app – you just type in a few key words to describe what you want and the app generates an image based on them in seconds. Unfortunately, you only get a free 5-day trial period and then you have to subscribe, which is pretty expensive.
Jane: And what do you think of the digital assistant app? Is that free?
Ben: Yes, but it isn’t as impressive. The AI gets confused easily and doesn’t always give the right answer. Luckily, there are plenty of other free assistants online, so I will try those out. Have you downloaded any?
Jane: Yes, I downloaded a photo-editing app this morning, but I didn’t like it. Apparently, there is another one they say is better, so I’ll try that. I plan to lose weight and my sister suggested I download a diet tracker app. I installed it on my phone. The AI gives good personal advice, but it takes forever to respond. I’ve heard it works better on a smartwatch, though.
Ben: Have you read about any other AI apps to try out?
Jane: Yeah, this blog also mentions a navigation app, which can give you visual directions in real time. It’s super simple to use and it can help save a lot of time when travelling.
Ben: That’s incredible.

The impact of artificial intelligence has become greater on our society, but we can’t say that development is always positive. Although AI has considerable benefits, we must be careful of the risks associated with it.
While AI has the great strength of being able to analyse and process large amounts of data, it also comes with privacy concerns. There is a possibility that AI could gather our personal data and misuse it. If the technology is not properly secured, it could put our personal privacy at risk.
Additionally, another risk of using AI is the potential for unemployment. Due to the development of AI, it has been able to replace many manual jobs. What’s more, as technology becomes more advanced, more and more people could find themselves becoming unemployed due to automation, which would be a serious issue.
Believe it or not, AI could also play a role in creating inequality. Since AI systems rely on the data that humans provide them in order to make decisions, they may respond differently to people of certain groups if they are provided with inaccurate data. This could cause major social issues if AI is used improperly in the public sector, for example. In order to avoid unintended negative consequences from AI, we need collaboration between governments, businesses and AI researchers. Once we know how to use AI safely, we can fully realise the benefits of this incredible technology.
