1. Câu ghép tiếng Anh

a. Định nghĩa:

Câu ghép trong tiếng Anh (compound sentences) là các câu chứa từ hai mệnh đề độc lập trở lên và chúng được kết hợp với nhau bởi một liên từ và hệ thống các dấu phẩy, chấm phẩy.

b. Công thức:

Mệnh đề 1 + liên từ nối + mệnh đề 2

Liên từ	Ý nghĩa	Ví dụ
For	Bởi, vì, do (mục đích)	He went to the concert, for he loved the band’s music. (Anh ấy đã đến buổi hòa nhạc, vì anh ấy thích nhạc của ban nhạc đó.)
And	Và (bổ sung)	I love jazz and he loves rock music. (Tôi yêu nhạc jazz và anh ấy yêu nhạc rock.)
Nor	Và cũng không	He does not like singing nor does he like dancing. (Anh ấy không thích ca hát và cũng không thích nhảy múa.)
But	Nhưng (tương phản)	The music show is famous but I do not like it. (Chương trình ca nhạc nổi tiếng nhưng tôi không thích nó.)
Or	Hoặc (lựa chọn)	You can go to the live concert or you can listen to recorded music. (Bạn có thể đến buổi hòa nhạc trực tiếp hoặc bạn có thể nghe bản thu âm.)
Yet	Tuy nhiên (tương phản)	The music show is famous yet I do not like it. (Chương trình ca nhạc nổi tiếng nhưng tôi không thích nó.)
So	Vì thế, cho nên (kết quả)	The concert did not happen so we stayed at home. (Buổi biểu diễn không diễn ra nên chúng tôi ở nhà.)

2. Động từ nguyên thể có to và không có to

Một số động từ theo sau bởi động từ nguyên thể có to (to-infi)

demand đòi hỏi	hope hy vọng	manage xoay xở	continue tiếp tục
plan lên kế hoạch	agree đồng ý	refuse từ chối	remember nhớ (phải làm gì)
decide quyết định	ask hỏi	fail thất bại, không làm gì	offer đề nghị, cung cấp
want muốn, mong muốn	pretend giả vờ	need cần	try cố gắng

Ví dụ:

- I decide to join the music show. (Tôi quyết định tham gia chương trình âm nhạc.)

- I plan to attend a music concert. (Tôi dự định tham gia một buổi hoà nhạc.)

Một số động từ theo sau bởi động từ nguyên thể không có to (infi)

He hears the piano keys play a gentle tune. Anh ấy nghe tiếng phím piano chơi một giai điệu nhẹ nhàng.

Did you notice the guitarist’s fingers move quickly? Bạn có chú ý đến những ngón tay của nghệ sĩ ghi-ta di chuyển nhanh không?

Let’s watch the drummer play the drums. Chúng ta hãy xem tay trống chơi trống.

She makes the keyboard produce different sounds. Cô ấy làm cho bàn phím tạo ra các âm thanh khác nhau.

The teacher lets us sing our favorite songs. Cô giáo để chúng tôi hát những bài hát yêu thích.
