A. Lý thuyết trật tự tính từ trong tiếng Anh
Trong tiếng Anh, khi có nhiều tính từ đứng trước để bổ nghĩa cho một danh từ, các tính từ đó không được sắp xếp tùy ý mà phải tuân theo một trật tự nghiêm ngặt.
Quy tắc cốt lõi để nhớ trật tự này là cụm từ viết tắt: OpSASCOMP (hoặc OSASCOMP).
1. Công thức OpSASCOMP thần chú
Dưới đây là bảng chi tiết trật tự tính từ từ trái sang phải, từ ngoài vào trong (tính từ xa danh từ nhất đến tính từ gần danh từ nhất):

2. Ví dụ áp dụng thực tế
Thay vì học thuộc lòng từng từ, bạn hãy nhìn cách ghép các tính từ theo đúng thứ tự qua các ví dụ sau:
Một chiếc túi ngủ bằng lụa màu đen, mới, rất đẹp:Phân tích: đẹp (Opinion) - mới (Age) - đen (Color) - lụa (Material) - ngủ (Purpose) + túi (Noun).
👉 A beautiful new black silk sleeping bag.
Một chiếc bàn ăn bằng gỗ, hình tròn, to, cũ:Phân tích: to (Size) - cũ (Age) - tròn (Shape) - gỗ (Material) + bàn (Noun).
👉 A big old round wooden table.
Một cô gái người Việt Nam, trẻ trung, thông minh:Phân tích: thông minh (Opinion) - trẻ (Age) - người Việt (Origin) + cô gái (Noun).
👉 An intelligent young Vietnamese girl.
3. Lưu ý quan trọng khi làm bài tập và giao tiếp
Dấu phẩy giữa các tính từ:
Nếu các tính từ thuộc cùng một nhóm (ví dụ: hai màu sắc), bạn cần dùng chữ and hoặc dấu phẩy. (Ví dụ: a black and white dress).
Nếu các tính từ thuộc khác nhóm OpSASCOMP (ví dụ: kích cỡ và màu sắc), bạn không dùng dấu phẩy giữa chúng. (Ví dụ: a big red ball).
Hạn định từ luôn đứng đầu: Các từ hạn định như a, an, the, this, that, these, those, my, his, her luôn đứng trước toàn bộ chuỗi tính từ OpSASCOMP.
Số lượng đứng trước chất lượng: Nếu có số đếm (one, two, three...) hoặc số thứ tự (first, second...), chúng phải đứng trước các tính từ chỉ tính chất. (Ví dụ: The first two beautiful girls).
Thực tế giao tiếp: Người bản xứ hiếm khi dùng quá 3 tính từ trước một danh từ vì nó gây cảm giác nặng nề. Cấu trúc phổ biến nhất chỉ gồm 2 - 3 tính từ.

• An old, wooden, rectangular, brown, French, dining table. (Một bàn ăn cũ, bằng gỗ, hình chữ nhật, màu nâu, kiểu Pháp.)
