Để phân biệt Thì hiện tại hoàn thành (Present Perfect) và Thì hiện tại hoàn thành tiếp diễn (Present Perfect Continuous), điểm mấu chốt nằm ở chỗ: một bên tập trung vào kết quả, còn một bên tập trung vào quá trình.

2. Sự khác biệt cốt lõi qua ví dụ
- Trường hợp 1: Kết quả (Số lượng) vs. Quá trình (Thời gian)
Present Perfect: I have written three essays today.
(Tôi đã viết xong 3 bài luận hôm nay ⇒ Nhấn mạnh số lượng thành quả đạt được là 3 bài).
Present Perfect Continuous: I have been writing essays all morning.
(Tôi đã ngồi viết luận suốt cả buổi sáng ⇒ Nhấn mạnh hành động viết diễn ra liên tục, tốn thời gian).
- Trường hợp 2: Hành động đã xong vs. Hành động chưa xong
Present Perfect: He has repaired the car.
(Anh ấy đã sửa xong cái xe rồi ⇒ Hiện tại cái xe đã chạy tốt, hành động sửa đã kết thúc).
Present Perfect Continuous: He has been repairing the car.
(Anh ấy đã và đang sửa xe ⇒ Anh ấy vẫn đang lấm lem bùn đất, xe có thể vẫn chưa sửa xong).
- Trường hợp 3: Sự khác biệt về kết quả để lại ở hiện tại
Present Perfect: Someone has eaten my chocolate!
(Ai đó đã ăn sô-cô-la của tôi rồi! ⇒ Tập trung vào kết quả: hộp sô-cô-la bây giờ đã hết sạch hoặc bị vơi đi).
Present Perfect Continuous: Your hands are covered in chocolate! Have you been eating chocolate?
(Tay con dính đầy sô-cô-la kìa! Con vừa mới ăn sô-cô-la đúng không? ⇒ Tập trung vào hành động vừa mới xảy ra và để lại dấu vết/vết bẩn ở hiện tại).
3. Lưu ý đặc biệt quan trọng: Động từ chỉ trạng thái (Stative Verbs)
Có một số động từ chỉ trạng thái, sở hữu hoặc cảm xúc (như know, like, love, hate, believe, understand, have (sở hữu)...) KHÔNG được dùng ở dạng tiếp diễn. Đối với các từ này, dù muốn nhấn mạnh quá trình hay thời gian, bạn bắt đầu bắt buộc phải dùng Thì hiện tại hoàn thành.
Sai: I have been knowing her for 5 years.
Đúng: I have known her for 5 years. (Tôi đã biết cô ấy được 5 năm).
