I. Lý thuyết chuyển đổi Because - Because of & Though/ Although - Despite/ In spite of
Việc chuyển đổi giữa các liên từ này dựa trên một quy tắc cốt lõi: Biến đổi một mệnh đề (có chủ ngữ và động từ) thành một cụm danh từ hoặc động từ thêm -ing, và ngược lại.
Dưới đây là công thức chi tiết và các mẹo chuyển đổi dễ nhớ nhất.
1. Nhóm chỉ nguyên nhân: Because ↔ Because of
Cấu trúc này dùng để diễn tả lý do. Because đi với mệnh đề, còn Because of đi với cụm từ.

Cấu trúc này dùng để diễn tả sự nhượng bộ (mặc dù... nhưng...).

3. 4 Cách chuyển đổi từ Mệnh đề (S + V) sang Cụm từ (N / V-ing)
Khi đổi từ Because/Although sang Because of/Despite, bạn hãy áp dụng 1 trong 4 mẹo sau:
- Cách 1: Sử dụng V-ing (Khi 2 mệnh đề cùng chủ ngữ)
Nếu hai vế trong câu có cùng một chủ ngữ, bạn chỉ cần bỏ chủ ngữ ở vế chứa
Because/Although và đổi động từ chính thành dạng -ing.
Ví dụ: Although she was sick, she went to school.
Đổi thành: Despite being sick, she went to school.
- Cách 2: Biến tính từ thành danh từ (Nếu mệnh đề có dạng: S + be + Adj)
Bạn chuyển đại từ nhân xưng thành sở hữu cách, rồi đổi tính từ thành danh từ tương ứng.
Công thức: S + be + Adj → Tính từ sở hữu + Danh từ
Ví dụ: Because the weather was bad...
Đổi thành: Because of the bad weather...
Ví dụ 2: Although he is poor...
Đổi thành: Despite his poverty...
- Cách 3: Giữ lại Danh từ chính (Nếu mệnh đề có dạng: Có danh từ + be + Adj)
Bạn chỉ cần đem tính từ lên đặt trước danh từ và bỏ động từ to be.
Ví dụ: Because the rain was heavy...
Đổi thành: Because of the heavy rain...
- Cách 4: Mẹo "Thần thánh" với "The fact that"
Nếu câu quá phức tạp và bạn không biết đổi tính từ hay danh từ như thế nào, hãy thêm cụm the fact that vào sau Because of / Despite. Cụm này cho phép bạn giữ nguyên mệnh đề phía sau mà không cần sửa đổi gì cả.
Ví dụ: Although he made many mistakes, he wasn't fired.
Đổi thành: Despite the fact that he made many mistakes, he wasn't fired.
