WARM-UP (5 minutes)

Objectives: To generate students’ interests and get to know each other.

- As the children come into the classroom, say Hello / Good morning / Good afternoon / Welcome back! Smile and encourage children to say Hello to you.

- Wait until the children are seated, and then say Hello, myname’s (your name). I’m happy to be back in class. This year, I want to sing lots of songs. Point to a child and ask What’s your name? Why are you happy to be back in class? Allow time for the child to answer. Continue with other children in the class.

1. PRESENTATION (5 minutes)

Objectives: To remind children of the songs from Tiếng Anh 4 Family and Friends National Edition.

2. PRACTICE (15 minutes)

1. Listen and sing. (Track 1)

- Ask children to open their Student Books to page 4.

- Play the song once for children to listen. Then play it again as they follow the words in their books. Read each line of the song aloud for children to repeat after you.

- Play the recording again for children to sing along.

- Repeat as often as you wish.

2. Listen read. (Track 2)

- If children have done Tiếng Anh 4 Family and Friends National Edition, ask if they can remember the names of the four children. Elicit the names Max, Holly, Amy, and Leo and write them on the board. Ask Who is Max’s sister? (Holly), Who are Amy and Leo? (their cousins), Where are Amy and Leo from? (Australia).

- If children haven’t done Tiếng Anh 4 Family and Friends National Edition, explain that they are going to read stories about some children named Max, Holly, Amy, and Leo. Explain that Max and Holly are brother and sister, and that Amy and Leo are their Australian cousins.

- Ask children to look at the story. Point to the characters in turn and ask Who’s this? (Max), Who’s this? (Amy), Where are they? (in the classroom at school). Can you see Leo? (in Frame 4). Encourage predictions about the story.

- Play the video or the recording.

- Play the video or recording again. Pause after each line of text for children to repeat. Answer any questions they have.

- Ask questions to check comprehension, e.g., How was Amy’s day at school? What did Amy need for her P.E. class? What did she need for her math class? What did she need for her art class? Where were all of these things?

* Game: True or false

- R ead a sentence about a character in the story.

- Have students stand up if the sentence is true.

- Have students sit down if the sentence is false.

- Follow teacher's instructions.

3. Listen and read. What does Jim do? (Track 7)

- Play the video or recording again for children to listen and repeat the lines in chorus.

- Divide the class into groups of three. Each child in the group chooses a role: Mom, Amy, and Max. If your class doesn’t divide equally into groups of three, some children can act out two parts.

- Play the recording again, pausing for children to repeat each line for their character.

- Children practice acting out the story. Monitor the activity checking for correct intonation.

* Differentiation

Below level:Children act out one or two story frames.

At level: Children do the activity.

Above level: Ask children to think of one more line for their character to extend the story.
