I. Cấu trúc so sánh hơn nhất với tính từ ngắn
Cấu trúc chung:
S + be + the + adj-est …
Ví dụ:
- My father is the tallest person in my family.
II. Cách thêm đuôi –est vào tính từ ngắn
-Tính từ kết thúc bởi 1 phụ âm, thêm đuôi –est
old – oldest, near – nearest
- Tính từ kết thúc bởi nguyên âm “e”, chỉ cần thêm đuôi –st.
fine – finest
- Tính từ kết thúc bởi 1 nguyên âm (a, i, e, o, u) + 1 phụ âm, gấp đôi phụ âm cuối và thêm đuôi –est.
thin - thinnest, fat – fattest, hot – hottest
- Tính từ kết thúc bởi “y” dù có 2 âm tiết vẫn là tính từ ngắn, bỏ “y” thêm đuôi -est
happy – happiest, busy – busiest
pretty – prettiest, easy – easiest
- Một số những tính từ có 2 âm tiết nhưng có tận cùng là “y,le, ow, er” thì áp dụng quy tắc thêm đuôi –est của tính từ ngắn.
