- They are ordinary items such as an old postcard, a map to a party, used postage stamps, a magazine, a piece of junk mail, some wrapping paper and ribbon or rare objects like a drawing that Warhol never exhibited, a photograph that he took. Ladies and gentlemen, today I’d like to share with you the contents of my own brown cardboard box, inspired by Andy Warhol’s collection, but with a Vietnamese twist. Here are five everyday objects from Vietnam that I’ve chosen to include:

1. Áo dài: This traditional Vietnamese dress holds a special place in my heart. It symbolizes elegance, cultural pride, and timeless beauty. By including an ao dai in my box, I want to showcase my appreciation for Vietnamese heritage and my connection to its rich cultural traditions.

2. Nón lá (conical hat): The conical hat is not just a simple hat; it represents the resilience, simplicity, and practicality of Vietnamese people. It’s a symbol of rural life, protection from the elements, and a connection to nature. By including a conical hat in my box, I want to express my admiration for Vietnamese craftsmanship and my respect for the values of hard work and humility.

3. Bánh mì wrapper: Bánh mì, Vietnam’s iconic street food, holds a special place in my daily life. It represents the diversity, creativity, and deliciousness of Vietnamese cuisine. By including a bánh mì wrapper in my box, I want to celebrate the culinary delights of Vietnam and my love for its vibrant food culture.

4. Motorbike key: In Vietnam, motorbikes are more than just vehicles; they’re a way of life. The motorbike key represents mobility, freedom, and adventure. It’s a reminder of the bustling streets, the chaotic traffic, and the sense of excitement that comes with exploring Vietnam’s cities and countryside. By including a motorbike key in my box, I want to convey my love for adventure and my appreciation for the unique charm of Vietnamese transportation.

5. Incense sticks: Incense holds a special place in Vietnamese culture, symbolizing spirituality, tradition, and reverence. Burning incense is a daily ritual for many Vietnamese families, offering prayers, blessings, and a sense of connection to the divine. By including incense sticks in my box, I want to honor my spiritual heritage and my belief in the power of rituals and traditions.

These everyday objects tell a story about me, my culture, and my connection to Vietnam. They reflect my appreciation for Vietnamese heritage, my love for its vibrant culture and cuisine, and my sense of adventure and spirituality. Together, they paint a picture of who I am and what I hold dear in my life. Thank you for listening.
