- Use the phrases swim, take a photo, collect seashells and walk on the beach in relation to the topic “Family time”.

Step 2: Ask pupils to look at the pictures. Play the recording for them to listen. Play the recording again, sentence by sentence, for pupils to listen and repeat. Correct their pronunciation where necessary.

Step 3: Invite a few pairs to the front of the classroom to listen to and repeat the sentences in the recording.

Step 4: Draw their attention to the question Did you swim? and the answer Yes, I did. I swam with my mother. Tell pupils that this question and the answer are about people doing activities in the past.

Step 2: Have pupils point at Picture a, listen to the first part of the recording and repeat the word and phrase swim / with my mother.

Step 3: Draw pupils’ attention to Picture a again and have them listen to the second part of the recording and repeat Did you swim? – Yes, I did. I swam with my mother.

Step 4: Repeat the same procedure with Pictures b, c and d. Have the class listen to and repeat the questions and answers a few times.

Step 5: Have pairs practise asking and answering the question Did you _____? – Yes, I ____. I ___. using the picture cues and the phrases.

Step 6: Invite a few pairs to point at the pictures and say the questions and answers

in front of the class.

Extension: Have pupils look at the pictures again. One half of the class should ask questions and the other half should answer. Then, switch roles.

b. a girl taking photos with his father and the phrases take photos / with my father underneath

Step 2: Put pupils into pairs and have them practise asking and answering questions about whether someone did something in the past. Go around the classroom to offer support where necessary.

Step 3: Invite a few pairs to the front of the class to ask and answer questions about whether someone did something in the past using the picture cues. Praise pupils if they perform well.

4. Consolidation (7’)

* Option 1: Game: Lucky animals

- Tell pupils they are going to look at the pictures and ask and answer the questions about the pictures.

- Divide the class into two groups.

- Have two pupils from each group take turns to choose an animal and do the task.

- If the group chooses a lucky animal, they will get points and continue the next turn.

e.g. Pupil A: Did you swim?

Pupil B: Yes, I did. I swam with my father.

- Get corresponding points for their group.

- Continue with the other pupils.

- The group that gets the most points wins. Praise the winner.

* Option 2: Game: Card passing

- Stick the cards on the board. Ask pupils to say the words related to the cards.

- Hand out the cards to different pupils around the class.

- Play the song “Hello song”. Ask pupils to pass the cards to the pupils next to them while the music is playing.

- Stop the music suddenly. Invite a pupil who is holding the card to ask the question
“Did you swim yesterday?”. Ask another pupil to answer, e.g. Yes, I did. I swam with my sister.

- Play the music again and repeat the activity.

- Ask pupils to check their friends’ pronunciation.

5. Homework (2’)

- Learn by heart vocab at home.

- Prepare the new lesson: Lesson 1 (4, 5, 6) of Unit 11.

* Preparation for the project (Digital Competence 2.1CB2a): Tell pupils about the project on page 11, Lesson 3, Activity 6. Ask each pupil to create a digital photo journal (or a paper one if no device is available) by selecting photos of family activities from the previous summer. Encourage them to share these photos with a friend via a safe messaging app or bring them on a USB drive to share in the next class project time.
