The Desert

Some deserts have sand, others have rocks or mountains. There are also deserts with ice and snow. In sandy deserts, the wind makes sand dunes. They can look like mountains.

It is usually very dry in the desert, but plants and animals need water. Some plants, like a cactus, keep water in their stems.

Desert animals don't drink a lot. Camels sometimes don't drink water for a week. This is why people travel on camels in the desert.

- Desert is in every continent! In Africa there is the Sahara Desert, in Australia there is the Outblack, and even in Antarctica there is a desert!

- In the desert there are mostly cacti, but there are other plants such as daisies and even yuccas!

- The animals must be able to survive in hot and cold climates. Animals such as rabbits, foxex, sheep, coyotes, scorpions and many more. Also there are birds such as hawks ans vultures.

- There are cold and hot deserts which get little rain. In the coldest desert, it snows in the winter and in the warm desert, it doesn't snow, but gets most of its rain in the spring time.
